Snow Goose Reports 2011 -1.5 Juvenile Per 1 Adult Bird Population
The hatch rate is as big as it’s been in many years in many nesting area‘s. “This is a huge production year!”, says Dr. Robert “Rocky” Rockwell, a biology professor at NY City University. And he should know. Rocky is one of North America’s leading authorities on snow geese, their nesting habits, and effects on the tundra.
Understanding of course, the weather is often the key factor in killing snow geese and that can not be predicted, bad hatch years can be great and good hatch years can be bad, depending all on how mother nature treats you, as we all know. But I will say, with the early spring, what we hoped for, our predictions seemingly have come true with large numbers of birds currently being harvested as I write this, and an unbelievable 1.5 juvenile per 1 adult bird population!!!!!! With the right weather, this spring could be a record breaker!!!!
